Where did it all go wrong?

WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG?

A recent poll in the US found that most women reported that their confidence peaked at age 9. There are a variety of reasons we lose confidence but one of the primary reasons is that we receive feedback that doesn’t match our concept of self. It shatters our identity and perceived strengths and replaces it with a DARK VOID where we start to question EVERYTHING.

When was the first moment you started to question your expression of identity or self-worth? Whose voice do you hear when you feel self-conscious?

DARE2BARECHALLENGE: WRITE YOURSELF A NOTE OF WHAT YOU WOULD WANT TO TELL YOUR 9-YEAR OLD SELF TODAY.

Dear 9 year old me:

Where did I go wrong? You are everything you could have ever dreamed of. The whole amazing power is already inside you. You are the light. Don’t ever dim your light for others let your true self shine bright. I first started to dim my light when I realized I couldn’t see, and I had to get glasses. I was bullied just for being a little different, and somehow I really cared. To the voices in your head, telling you that you’re ugly, that you’re not good enough, that your body is not what it’s supposed to be, that you’re supposed to be happy all time…FUCK all those voices!! All those children who bullied you growing up, don’t worry they’ll get their karma. To the guidance by adults who led you wrong, just be you Lee, just be yourself, don’t listen to them, they’re wrong. To all the boys growing up who acted like “men” who treated you wrong, every word they said, didn’t mean shit, they weren’t anything but scared little boys, no matter how badly they treated you, always stand up for yourself! You will see that you are stronger than them, and that matters! You will find someone who adores you for you and treats you like a queen. Don’t ever put yourself in a compromising situation, be grounded, trust yourself, be ok with just you. You are amazing! Remember that. Shine bright.
